Expats and Family Medicine Doctors

Most expats arrive in Singapore and have a vast amount of navigating to get their new life set up. Many of the doctors and staff at Osler Health have been on the same journey with their families. One of the many items on the to-do list for new expats is to locate a trusted international family health clinic. Finding family physicians that get to know the health needs of you and your family is important as you never know what health and wellness challenges may evolve in your new life.

We suggest you ask others and get recommendations from experienced expats on the best international health clinics. The good news is that there are many options available in Singapore, and you can be assured that family physicians, international family clinics and international health clinics are all regulated by the Singapore Medical Council, ensuring high standards of care. Singapore’s health system is considered one of the best in the world – so you are in safe hands. Another option is to look at Google Business reviews for honest patient feedback.

Family health care services

There are many services available at international family health clinics, including:

Women’s health

We believe that women deserve to have healthcare explicitly designed for them. We aim to provide a holistic experience, getting to know you to ensure you can take ownership of your health. As part of our women’s health clinic service, we treat females of any age, and our consultations are adapted to the needs of each patient, including women’s health screenings.

We see teenagers, women wanting to conceive, pregnant mums, new mums, women planning their families, menopausal women, and every stage in between. We feel strongly that patients deserve a safe, ethical and confidential clinic for women’s health based here in Singapore.

Depending upon your preference, we have both female doctors and male doctors at both clinics. What unites them all is their excellent medical experience and kindness.

Men’s health

It is important that men feel comfortable to visit the doctor. Studies show that men are less likely to seek medical help until after their symptoms have progressed, however health outcomes are better if symptoms are treated promptly. Our doctors are known for their professional understanding of men’s health and can provide guidance on common men’s health concerns including testosterone reviews, prostate checks, mental health discussions, libido, sports injuries, testicular cancer checks and much more.

We offer men’s health screenings which are based upon your age and health history. Whether you need a routine physical health assessment, a sexually transmitted disease (STD) check-up, or you wish to discuss mental health, we have doctors who can support you. We have 2 male doctors – Dr Neil Forrest and Dr Peter Chiu (if male patients feel more comfortable talking to a male doctor).

Regardless of whom you see, the sooner health issues are identified, the better the overall health outcome.

Children’s health

The Osler Health doctors care for babies and children each day, providing support for their physical, emotional, and developmental wellbeing from birth through to adolescence. These paediatric services include routine immunisations, growth and development tracking, and management of common childhood illnesses.

With many years of experience, our children’s doctors collaborate with parents and caregivers to ensure that children achieve their developmental milestones whilst also providing guidance on nutrition, vaccinations, physical activity, and general wellness. Children of all ages are very welcome at Osler Health, from newborns to toddlers to adolescents.

Teen health

Teen health services focus on the unique needs of adolescents, providing medical care, education, and support tailored to this critical developmental stage. Recognising the complex physical, emotional, and social changes teens face, our doctors for teenagers provide mental health support and guidance on healthy lifestyle choices.

If you are a worried parent, we often see parents before the teen to understand any concerns. Most often we suggest we see adolescents on their own, to provide an environment where they may feel at liberty to talk openly about experiences/concerns in a confidential space with the doctor.

Mental health

If your mental health is affecting your daily life, it may be time to seek external support. Our mental health doctors can provide support for many common concerns, from anxiety and depression to stress management and burnout. By working with a trusted doctor at an international family health clinic, you can get the care and resources you need. At Osler Health, the doctors believe mental wellness is as important as physical wellness, and with this in mind the doctors employ a compassionate and measured approach when tackling issues related to mental health.

Frequently asked questions about international family health clinics in Singapore

International family care clinics are considered primary care providers and can provide healthcare solutions for all family members, including newborns, infants, children, teenagers and adults. Anyone is welcome as these clinics handle a wide array of health needs, including routine check-ups, chronic disease management, and mental health support. Family physicians can also provide personalised care, ensuring that each patient’s unique health concerns and requirements are addressed comprehensively.

Our family physicians manage and address a wide range of conditions, taking a holistic approach to caring for patients. This means they do not just treat the physical problem but strive to understand patient’s holistically, thereby addressing their overall well-being.

Having a family physician means they get to know you and each member of your family to better protect your health. They also become your ‘go-to’ for any health concerns and guide you (and co-partner with other healthcare professionals if necessary) to better health outcomes.

Yes, expats looking for family health clinics that offer a wide range of health screenings can visit us in Singapore. It’s recommended to undergo health screenings that are based on your specific needs, age, gender and health history as opposed to “off-the-shelf” screenings. This is a more targeted approach and is more cost-effective as ‘off-the-shelf’ health screening packages often mean you pay for tests and procedures you simply do not need. Your family physician can recommend tests and procedures you may need along with the associated costs.
