With the start of a brand new year, it’s time to plan for your annual health screening. If you can’t remember when was the last time you got your health screened, read on! In this article, we discuss the possible reasons why you may be putting off health screening and what you can do to work around them.

1. “I feel well. Why should I go for a health screening?”

It is a common misconception that you should only go for health screening when you feel unwell. Many serious illnesses like cancer do not cause any discomfort in the early stages. Common health issues like high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes can strike anyone without warning.

If left untreated, these diseases can lead to severe complications. Going for regular health screening allows for an early diagnosis, often resulting in better treatment outcomes.

2. “I’m too busy.”

For those with busy work schedules and numerous family commitments, going for health screening may be the last thing on your mind. However, know that health screening tests do not have to be done in one sitting if you don’t have time. At Osler Health, we can work around your schedule and arrange the screening at a time that works best for you. For example, if you have an important work appointment in the afternoon, we can help you prioritise and plan for the screenings to be completed in the morning. The remaining tests, if any, can be done at a later date that’s more convenient for you.

Setting aside a little time now for health screening can potentially save you from having to deal with graver conditions a few years down the road – your future self will thank you for it!

3. “I had already done my health screening a few years ago. There’s no need for me to do it again.”

Health screenings aim to detect any health changes that require attention, so it should not be a ‘one-off’ activity. By checking in on your health regularly, any problems can be diagnosed in the early stages, allowing you to seek timely treatment.

It is recommended that adults get health screening at least once a year.

4. “Health screenings are so expensive.”

Understandably, many may be put off by the potential financial costs of getting health screening. However, health screenings do not have to be expensive. At Osler Health, we will only recommend screening tests that you need. So, you won’t have to worry about paying for pricey health screening packages with unnecessary tests. We will also discuss the cost of your recommended screenings beforehand, so be assured that you won’t be getting any unpleasant surprises afterwards.

5. “I’m not sure what tests to take.”

Don’t worry if you have no idea which tests you should take – we’ll take care of that. Your doctor will assess your individual health needs based on your age, gender, health conditions and health history, and recommend tests accordingly.

Purchasing a generic health screening package may seem like a convenient option, but by doing so, you run the risks of paying for unnecessary tests and missing out on tests that are pertinent to you.

No two patients are the same, and we believe that there’s no one-size-fits-all solution to health screening. You can also benefit from time and cost savings with customised health screening.
